NHL players are being encouraged to use protective gear to protect themselves from concussions during their time on the ice during a new season.
A new policy that was announced Wednesday by the National Hockey League says players should wear protective gear for at least a half-hour before and after a game.
The league says wearing the gear will give players more time to recover.
The NHL says its players will not wear helmets and gloves during the first half of the season and that there will be no mandatory helmet and glove wear during the second half of games.
