Ohio State hockey will play in its future games on television, and with a brief chat with fans on the sidelines, coach Jim Tressel said.
“We will have our game in front of our fans on ESPNU,” Tressell said.
“We have some games that will be on the network, some games on the regional channel that we will be able to play with ESPN, and some games we’ll have on ESPN3 that we’ll be able live stream.
It’s a great time for us, for our fans, for the program and for the community.”
In addition to the games, Tressels said, he will be watching what he calls a “new era” of games.
“It’s a new era for the sport in terms of the number of games we can have,” he said.
The Buckeyes are not the only one playing games on ESPN.
Michigan State is also on ESPN2.
The Spartans and Wolverines have been playing games online since the fall of 2014.
Last year, Ohio State played five games online and three on TV.
That season, the Buckeyes finished 10-3-1 on the road and lost to Michigan, 31-30, in the Rose Bowl.
The season finale against Michigan was the first game on the networks.
Ohio State also played in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 28, 2016.
Tressel called the new format a “great way to bring the game to fans and to fans of the program.”
